From: ?????????????? (John Sandin) Subject: New posting Hi Steve.......... I have a Peterson pipe that I'd like to know the value of. If it's a valuable antique, I'll sell it (maybe). If not, and it's just a decent pipe, I'll break it in and smoke it. It is unsmoked, and has what appears to be a somewhat tarnished sterling silver band, and is a "large pot" shape with a straight stem. The inside of the bowl is dyed the same color as the outside, a dark burgundy. There is an aluminum (I guess) condensor doodad attached to the stem, that fits into the shank. The markings are as follows: Left side of shank: "PETERSON'S STERLING" Right side of shank: "MADE IN IRELAND" (circular stamping) and "606". Left side of band: Three small shields; looks like they contain "K" "&" "P"". Underneath this hallmark it says: "STERLING SILVER" and underneath that, "PETERSON DUBLIN" All of the phrases above have the individual words on separate lines, one above the other, and are all-caps. The mouth-hole at the end of the stem is positioned on the top. I doubt that the pipe is too valuable to smoke, but just in case, I thought I'd better ask someone. Can anybody help me out on this? How old is this pipe? Should I smoke it? --John Sandin ~\U ~\U ~\U ~\U ~\U ~\U ~\U ~\U ~\U ~\U ~\U ~\U ~\U ~\U ~\U ~\U ~\U
