From: ???????????????? (Peter Travis) Subject: posting from pipes page Greetings, I have a question that I have not yet seen addressed anywhere. I am fond of camping and backpacking. In some of the places I go, it is necessary to hang food and other "smellables" from a tree to prevent bears from getting them. I am wondering if pipe tobacco falls in this category. I think that it is probably wiser to be safe than sorry, but the idea of hanging my tobacco in a tree disturbs me greatly, as I enjoy smoking before bed. Also, in these bear infested areas, campers are advised not to brush their teeth, or apply any smellable substance to themselves so as not to attract any curious bears. I hope that tobacco does not fall in this category and would like to know if anyone has information related to bears being attracted to pipe smoke. Thanks for all of the great work you do with this publication and any help you can provide. Sincerely, Peter Travis [So that's why I saw the grizzly trying to light an Ashton Magnum! At least, it's probably a good idea to leave the aromatics at home and stick with English blends.
