Subject: posting from pipes page
Gentleman and you ladies too-: My name is John F. Safranek and I'm a
51 year old pheasant hunter, fly fisherman, nurse, and teacher from
Puyallup and recently started smoking a pipe again after not having
smoked my pipe since 1969. I got hooked on cigs and smoked on and off
for 20 years. I guit the fags about eight years ago and am thankful I
did that. I am thouroughly enjoying my pipe smoking and only do
abought 3 bowls a day and love it. We have a Tinder Box here in
Puyallup at the South Hill Mall and Richard and David are very
knowledgeable about pipes and cigars and were a big help in getting me
going in the right direction. In the 60's I smoked a Kaywoodie bulldog
that I got at the local drug store and only smoked Flying
Dutchmen. Today I've got close to 20 pipes and mostly smoke my two
Dunhills, a 60's vintage Comoy from the Barkley Rex store, and a
Charatan. I got hooked on ebay and got most of my pipes from there,
much to my wife's dismay. I enjoy the Tinder Box selection of
aromatics but really love the English blends and latakia. I'm still
trying to find "my" blend and have'nt yet. By the way, does anybody
out there think that Laphroaig tastes abit like it has latakia in with
the peat they use to filter with? Also, what's with pipe smoking and
beards? I've had a beard for several years now, and it seems like all
the guys who write in have a beard. Something else that I've noticed
is, that when I travel, at the airports, nice looking women will come
and sit by me to smoke their cigs and start a discussion about how the
pipe reminds them of their fathers and grandfathers. I guess my
greybeard and hair has something to do with it too. Anybody in the
Olympia, Puyallup, Tacoma area that is interested in joining a pipe
club, get in touch with David at the South Hill Mall Tinderbox. We're
putting one together and have 10 guys to start. As Drudge says, it's
developing. Good luck to all you pipe smokers out there and keep an
eye on your pipes and your 2nd Amendment. Wood to wood, Big John

Quote of the Week:
"There was something about Commander Charles R. MacVean that had a
way of inspiring a legend. It wasn't the way he looked: tall, a
little chunky, and in his late thirties already crowned by a thatch
of thinning gray hair. This was a man who could stand beneath a
hatch after being doused with a column of water, deadpan and still
chewing his dripping pipe. This was also a man who had led the
nuclear attack submarine USS _Seawolf_ on one of the most dangerous
operations of the Cold War."

in your pocket...)
