From: Henry McGrattan <??????????????????> Subject: Philip Trypis Hi Steve, I wanted to let you and other pipe aficionados know that Philip Trypis, one of the original Canadian pipemasters has come out of retirement to carve some pieces from his stock of briar he stored when he retired. He has been out of the pipe carving art for almost 25 years. He is a third generation pipemaker who mentored and supplied such Canadian legends as John Calich and Julius Vesz. His new offerings will be limited. Philip has some unique features in his work. He never uses pipe putty--doesn't even own a tube. He lines his new pipes with a very fine clay to protect them, burning away as the cake builds. If anyone is interested I can be reached by e-mail. If there is a wide enough interest I hope to put up a web page to make some Trypis pipes available over the net.
