Subject: Farewell Amphora
What I am looking at here is an object smokers who
live in the USA (the land of the free) might not be
obtainable after a while.
A beautiful ten-ounce tin of Amphora Red.
There are a few cans left here in Coral Gables, but when they
go, well, I guess that will be the end.
What is printed on the can is sheer poetry.

Douwe Egberts has a long tradion in the
manufacture of pipe tobacco. As far
back as 1753 - over two centuries ago -
the firm of Douwe Egberts began to search for
and select tobacco varieties, from
Asia to America, of a quality eminent and fine
enough for pipe tobacco.
Since quality has always been our first concern
it is evident that even now
as Douwe Egberts has grown into a large
international concern, pipe tobaccos are still
manufactured by a small specialized division.
The manufacture of pipe tobacco is still a craft
at Douwe Egberts'.
Every year our own tobacco buyers
travel around the world to buy the best suited
tobaccos on the spot.
At Douwe Egberts pipe tobaccos are made by a
small group of dedicated workers.
The process is partially carried out by hand and
requires great skill and experience.
