Subject: Different woods for pipes

Hello All,

As a somewhat experienced pipe smoker I would like to expand my
knowledge into the art of pipe making. I have bought the PIMO book on pipe
makin, but it concentrates on briar. I would like to find out more about
pipes made out of apple and cherry wood. Also about other woods, like maple.
Do these woods need to be boiled, like briar, must they be dried as
long etc... Does anyone out there know of a resource that I can use to
pursue this info.
This is the best pipe resource that I have come across on pipes I
love it and am trying to get all of my friends to check it out. Thanks for
being there for us puffers.

[Cherry is often used for pipes. A company named Ropp made cherrywood
pipes with the bark left on. Don't know about the other species
though. -S.]
